VENDEE 2020
It’s time Britain ruled the waves again!
Since the British sailing legend, Sir Robin Knox-Johnson became the first person to sail solo non-stop around the world in 1969, no Briton has won a single-handed around the world race. Since then, the sport of solo ocean racing has been dominated by the French. #Vendee2020vision is a project that plans to reverse the trend. Our aim is simple, to achieve a British winner of the Vendee Globe Race in 2020.
The Vendee Globe is the Everest of endurance sports events. Sailing around the world, alone, non-stop and without assistance, on a complex and powerful 60ft yacht. The fastest boats achieve this feat of human and technical endurance in under 80 days. Dame Ellen Macarthur provided the best British result in 2000-2001, when she was 2nd, but captured the nations interest and admiration, not to mention providing unheard of levels of media coverage for her sponsor – Kingfisher.
